For the July edition, I've modified the categories for top fine art books as follows:
- the drawing, painting, art business categories stay the same
- 'artists' now expands to include 'art history' so that I can pick up the more generic art history books which focus on artists across different movements and periods.
- I've split the listings relating to NEW Fine Art books.
- In NEWLY RELEASED ART BOOKS IN JULY I now identify the top rated and best selling in the last 30 days amongst those books which are designated new releases. In effect this identifies which are the top rated/selling new books each month.
- PLUS - THE TOP 10 NEW ART BOOKS is a new list of the top ten new fine art books just published or due to be published. This means that you get a better sense of the new books coming along which might never make it into any of the conventional categories due to the books which "stick" in their respective categories. In practice some of these will have made it into the best selling or top rated categories purely on sales or pre-publication reviews as two books do this month - Creating Luminous Watercolor Landscapes and Botanical Drawing in Color: A Basic Guide to Mastering Realistic Form and Naturalistic Color

So, for example, in the new category in July:
- the new Society of Botanical Artists book Botanical Sketchbook is identified as due for publication on 24th August - but you might never see it in the Drawing Category due to the heavy weight nature of the existing books in that category
- similarly, Classical Life Drawing Studio: Lessons & Teachings in the Art of Figure Drawing (The Art Students League of New York) - published last week on 3rd August - might not reach a top spot but is a book worth taking a closer look at.

I'm still enjoying my Summer Slow Down (although hadn't planned on that including a funeral hence my absence last week). However, tomorrow I'll be return to the review of last month's poll results - followed on Tuesday by the new poll for August.
